CHILI DOG CONTEST MAKES CHILI COOK-OFF A BARK-FEST

There was a big time in Owasso.

It was all about world championship chili, booth decorations and CHILI DOGS at the first Owasso Harvest Festival Chili Cook-Off and Oklahoma Championship Chili Cook-Off Oct. 24th at Centennial Park in Owasso.  The VCA Owasso Animal Medical Center sponsored the Chili Dog Contest which attracted a bevy of costumed pooches big and small.

When the competition was over “Sulley,” a 1-year-old black Dachshund who owns Mindy and Jason Thixton of Owasso was the Chili Dog champion. Sulley showed up in a veterinarian doctor costume which wowed the judges.  “We had a great time at the cook-off and Sulley had her picture taken all day,” said Mindy.

Second place honors went to “Rocky,” a 1 ½ year old pit bull dressed up as a chili pepper. Jenny and Brian Adamus of Owasso are Rocky’s caretakers.

Taking third place was Daphane, a double-dappled Dachshund, looking like a real hot dog. Her caregiver is Angela Guillory of Owasso.

Finishing fourth was Barkley, a border collie with a squirrel chili look. Rhonda Lay of Owasso is Barkley’s buddy.

“We were so pleased at the enthusiasm we had for the first Chili Dog Contest at the chili cook-off,” said Dr. Tembra Gatlin of VCA. “When we were asked to participate in the cook-off it sounded like a perfect way to have fun and get health information on pets out into the community.”

VCA Owasso Animal Medical Center and TulsaPets Magazine combined to sponsor the Chili Dog Contest.

“I was thrilled to see so many of our chili lovers at the cook-off with their chili dogs on leashes bringing an extra ‘bark’ to our event,” said cook-off chairman John Fenrich. “Everyone who brought their pooch to the event had fun.”

VCA Owasso Animal Medical Center people on hand to give out goodies to every pet owner who stopped by the booth were Dr. Tembra Gatlin, Mariann Stanley, Kelli Crawford, Diane Stauffer and Ashley Barker

Photographs of the Owasso Harvest Festival Chili Cook-Off and the Chili Dog Contest will be posted on the event website: http://www.owassochilifestival.com.

Paws in the Park 09 - Fun along the Riverwalk

Paws in the Park is ALWAYS fun!  Either 2 legs or 4, it was a great morning to be out in the sun.

Camp Bow Wow, No Big Woof, Doggyville, Pop Art Portraits, Dog Dish and  Invisible Fence were just some of the Pet Businesses represented.

A pair of Newfoundland Retrievers,

A handsome Great Dane,

And a couple of Labradoodles along with dozens of others used up all of the sun that the day could provide.

Comments / Information about this animal:

I’ve had quite the journey…ended up in a shelter in Oklahoma, transferred to a rescue in Arkansas & then made my way back to Oklahoma by way of SGRR. I’m what you might consider a “special needs” boy as I have an old leg injury that the docs here are currently evaluating to see if I can regain use of it. I am forever grateful to my rescuers cause the “not so perfect” shelter dogs take a one-way trip to the Rainbow Bridge. Despite my bum leg, I’m mobile and get along just fine as a tripod. Looking past my leg, I am an otherwise healthy adult with the hallmark golden temperament. I’m currently in boarding and would love a foster home as I search for my forever family.

Pet Expo & Open House is a BIG Success

Tulsa Animal Welfare with the assistance of Oklahoma Alliance for Animals and rescue organizations had a fantastic event this past Saturday.  There were over 250 attendees at the 2nd Annual Animal Expo and Open House held at the Tulsa Animal Welfare facility.  Prizes were supplied by the Dog Dish Pet Boutique, Partnering for Pets and Tulsa SPCA.  Beautiful weather brought out plenty of folks to participate and a grand time was had by all.  At last count there have been at least 24 shelter adoptions with more rescue group adoptions still in the works and over 40 people had their animals micro chipped.  So it was a grand day for everyone.

The icing on the cake had to be the Pet Costume Contest judged by our own Marilyn King, Publisher of TulsaPets Magazine, City Councilor David Patrick and PETCO store #1427 Obedience Trainer, Marj Satterfield.

Congratulations to all of the participants!
